Description
The Baptist Church and Sunday School, built in 1877, is a two-storey building located on Gladstone Terrace. It features narrow courses of rusticated sandstone with ashlar dressings and is designed in a modified classical style. The church has three bays, with the central bay being wide and projecting, adorned with angle pilasters, an entablature, and a pediment that includes carved ornamentation.
On the first floor, there is a round arched window with an archivolt, which is crossed by an impost string and supported by two Ionic column mullions. A cill string runs beneath this window. The ground floor showcases a triple arcade with round columns, archivolts, and vermiculate keystones. The lower side bays have rounded corners leading to five-bay returns, which also feature an entablature and a balustraded parapet. The windows above are segment-headed, while those below are round arched.
To the east, there is a one-storey link with two narrow bays connecting to a two-storey, three-bay school house that shares a similar style and materials, along with a short balancing wing to the south.
