Description

The Methodist Church, built in the later 19th century, features an earlier school attached at the rear. It is constructed from rock-faced sandstone with ashlar dressings and has a slate roof. The building has a rectangular plan measuring three by six bays, while the school continues at an angle with four smaller bays. Both structures are two storeys tall, but the school is only half the height of the church.

The gable facing the road presents a three-bay symmetrical facade topped with a pediment. This facade includes a string course and giant rusticated clasping pilasters that are finished with panels at the top. The entrance features double six-panel doors topped by a semicircular fanlight with glazing bars, all framed by a large moulded and panelled architrave with a round-headed arch and keystone. Above this is a dentilled cornice and a plain frieze that serves as the sill for a first-floor tripartite window. This window has round-headed lights, circular lights in the heads, and a moulded archivolt with keystones. The flanking bays contain segmental-headed windows at the ground floor with stilted labels, and round-headed windows at the first floor. All windows have glazing bars and margin panes. The pediment features an oculus with a shaped surround.

The side walls of the church have segmental-headed windows at the ground floor and round-headed windows at the first floor. The school at the rear is built of coursed sandstone, with rectangular windows at the ground floor and round-headed windows above.
