Description
The United Reformed Church, built between 1800 and 1860, features a main structure from 1800 with five bays and later additions from the late 19th century, marked by a date stone of 1838. In 1860, a classical front was added. The church has a symmetrical two-storey stucco facade with three windows in the center and one window on each side. The central section is recessed behind a portico supported by two Doric columns. The facade includes rusticated walling between the inner and outer pilasters, with widely spaced triglyphs and plain columns. The upper windows on each side are rectangular, positioned above small arched doorways that feature voussoirs. Inside, the recessed center wall is made of red brick, with upper arched windows and lower square openings, along with a central doorway. The door frame is set within a reveal and has a moulded cornice on brackets. The plain side elevations are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and include a recessed arcade in each bay, with arched windows above cambered openings. The windows in the entrance recess and those in the side elevations have arched heads and coupled lights, along with a small circular opening in the spandrel.
