Description
The Red Lion Public House is a coaching inn that dates from the 18th and 19th centuries. Originally a two-storey building, it was expanded to create a three-storey facade with eight windows in the 19th century, along with a two-storey, one-window attachment on the east side. The building features a slate roof with a moulded eaves that has a fascia supported by a series of coupled curved brackets, which are doubled at each end. The walls are made of stucco and have simple moulded architraves around the windows. The ground floor windows are three-light units that have a cornice supported by four brackets and thin architraves. The windows are Victorian sashes set in reveals, although there are blank spaces above the entrances. The main doorway features a blocking course, a cornice with coupled brackets above pilasters, a band of large dentils, and a plain arched opening. On the east side, there is an elliptical archway with a keystone. The eastern section of the building has a plain parapet and a large three-light sash window above a plain square opening, indicating older and more recent rear extensions.
