Description
Ladywell School, located at 94 Duke Street in Glasgow, was designed by John Burnet (senior) in 1858 and originally named Alexander's Public School. The building features an Italianate style with some Greek revival details. It is two storeys high, constructed of polished ashlar, and has a nearly symmetrical appearance with advanced and pedimented gables at either end. The long central section includes steps leading to an arcaded loggia on the ground floor, and a thin campanile is positioned in the left re-entrant angle. The glazing pattern is distinctive and likely original, while the roofs are shallow-pitched and covered with slate. There is also a range at the rear of the building. The boundary wall along the street is made of ashlar and includes square gatepiers.
