Description
The statue of King William III is located in Cathedral Square, Glasgow, and was presented in 1735 by Governor Macrae of Madras. It features an equestrian bronze representation of William III, depicted as Emperor Constantine, mounted on a tall granite plinth. Notably, the horse's tail is attached with a ball and socket joint, allowing it to move in the wind. The sculptor of this statue is unknown, but a similar equestrian bronze from 1734, which is now in Hull, was created by Peter Scheemakers.
