Description
229 Nithsdale Road is a large two-storey villa designed by W F MacGibbon for himself around 1887, showcasing a Scots baronial style. The villa features a wide front gable and a three-storey turret topped with a candlesnuffer roof, positioned between tall chimney stacks. To the left, there is a narrow bay with a red-tiled roof that connects to a canted ground floor window. The exterior is constructed from stugged and snecked ashlar with polished dressings, and includes some sculptured details. The windows are primarily transomed and mullioned, with plate glass glazing. The villa has broad-eaved slate roofs and recessed low ranges on the flanks. A low boundary wall lines the street, complemented by plain gatepiers.
