Xaverton House, 231 Nithsdale Road, Glasgow

Xaverton House is a large two-storey and attic villa built in the style of W. F. MaGibbon between 1880 and 1890, featuring baronial details. The exterior is made of stone-cleaned yellow ashlar with plate glass glazing, and it has bracketted eaves and large piended slate roofs. The north front has three bays, with a curved window bay on the right that extends above the eaves and features a parapet, a three-light attic window, and a conical roof. The house also has pedimented stone dormers and a porch that is recessed on the left flank, which has a single blocked column. There is a modern timber extension to the east that appears to reuse the base of a former conservatory. The west flank facing Albert Road is similarly detailed. At the rear, a lower wing includes a lantern, presumably above a billiard room. The property is enclosed by a painted stone boundary wall, and there are Renaissance gatepiers at the street corner topped with pyramidal caps.
