Description

Dykeneuk House, located at 40 Dalziel Drive in Glasgow, is a B-listed mansion designed in the style of W F MacGibbon and dated 1886. This two-storey and basement Scots baronial house features an asymmetrical front with a crowstepped gable that projects forward on the left side. The left corner is rounded, showcasing a splayed and pedimented window on the first floor. A string course at the transom level runs across the face of the gable. Below, there is a large two-light mullioned and transomed window with a segmental opening in the basement. The right side includes a pedimented dormer and splayed windows beneath a corbelled corner. To the right, a balustraded stair leads up, while a splayed bay with a conservatory is found on the left. The original gatepiers are still present at the right-hand driveway.

Inside, the house boasts an elaborate and decorative interior, partly dating from around 1900, featuring art nouveau light fittings. The drawing room is adorned with heavily grained wood panelling and a bracketed chimneypiece with an overmantel that includes a marble and brass aesthetic movement fire surround. Above the chimneypiece, a curved frieze is painted with classical figures. The doors are elaborately panelled, set in lugged architraves with entablatures. Both the dining room and library have ornately detailed chimneypieces with overmantels, mirrors, shelves, and drawers; the dining room features an art nouveau detailed copper fire hood, while the library's panelling connects to bookshelves. Some leaded glass panels are present, including a three-light stair window facing east that depicts Wallace, Mary Queen of Scots, and Bruce. Additional wooden panelling and chimney pieces can be found in other rooms, and a cupola over the billiard room features classical figures, with one pane having been replaced.
