Description

This building is a warehouse located at 74 York Street in Glasgow, designed by Neil C Duff and dated 1901. It is a tall, seven-storey, three-bay commercial structure featuring Free Renaissance details. The exterior is made of red brick with a red sandstone ashlar front elevation, supported by an iron frame and steel beams.

The main entrance has a central door with a pilastered doorpiece and an open segmental pediment that includes low relief sculpture. The doorhead is segmental and features a mask keystone. On either side of the entrance are two large windows, with outer pilasters that support lion sculptures. The outer bays on the first to third floors are canted and framed by pilasters, while the centre bay has a two-light central window. There is carved decoration between the storeys, and a curvaceous pediment with sculpture sits over the centre lights of the centre bay, with a semi-circular window above and four lights on the fifth floor.

The fourth and fifth floors have outer bays flanked by Corinthian engaged columns, and the windows on both floors are linked in a semi-circular arched panel. A main cornice is present over the fifth floor, while the sixth floor windows are arranged in a 3-4-3 pattern with dividing columns and giant consoles between the bays, and a pediment over the centre. The outer bays feature a cornice and parapet. The tall brick rear elevation faces Robertson Lane and includes shallow canted windows in the outer bays.
