Description

Joseph Marr Johnston, dated 1903. 2-storey, attic and basement stripped Edwardian Baroque polychrome office and warehouse building with angled corner feature. Red brick with cream ashlar dressings, steel beam construction. Corner office block with ashlar bands every

6 courses to ground floor and angle feature; band courses framing 1st floor windows; ashlar voussoirs and corniced impost course to round- arched windows at ground floor; small square windows at 1st floor; modern velux rooflights to mansard roof.

NW (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: 5-bay with parapet of 3 centre bays raised to 3-storey; chamfered centre bay with round-arched raised entrance door with channelled ashlar ingoes, moulded 2-leaf door and semi-circular decorative dated iron grille fanlight. Flanking outer bays with broad round-arched windows at ground floor over paired barred openings of raised basement. Raised parapet of centre bays with bull?s-eye windows with distinctive raised keystones; eaves cornice.

SW ELEVATION: 5-bay; doorway to outer left with tall segmental-arched barred fanlight. Partly recessed arched pend opening with sliding track door to left of centre. Tall windows to right bays.

Ground floor windows of principal elevation with original radial astragalled glazing over plate glass; small-pane hopper windows to warehouse bays; modern windows to upper levels. Purple slate mansard roof, small wallhead stack to SW.

INTERIOR: tiled vestibule, inner door with Ionic pilasters and semi- circular stained glass fanlight with astragal petals.
