Description

363 Argyle Street in Glasgow is a commercial building dating from around 1858. It is a four-storey structure with an attic, featuring a classical end-terrace design with eight bays on the Argyle Street side and eleven bays along the James Watt Street side, including a shallow quadrant corner bay. The exterior is finished in painted ashlar, although the ground floor has been modernized.

All the windows are framed with architraves; the first and second floors have cornices, with the first floor featuring consoles above the windows and the second floor having consoles beneath the cills. The windows are sash and case style with plate glass. The building has an eaves band, cornice, and a blocking course, while the attic has been reconstructed. The curved, recessed angle bay has similar window detailing to the rest of the building.

The return elevation to James Watt Street is divided into two sections, with five bays on the northern section and six bays on the southern section. The first return bay on the northern section is blind on the third floor. The northern section is detailed like the Argyle Street façade, except the first-floor windows do not have consoles, while the southern section is simply detailed with four-pane sash and case windows. The roof is slate, and the interior features cast-iron columns.
