Description
101-115 Union Street in Glasgow is a four-storey and attic corner commercial building designed by James Brown of Brown and Carrick around 1851. The building features an astylar classical style and has modern shops on the ground floor. It has a total of 12 bays across 5 sections, including a recessed, curved corner bay. The exterior is finished in polished ashlar with long and short angle quoins.
The windows are primarily sash and case, set within architraves, although many have been altered. The first-floor windows are framed by panelled pilaster architraves and feature arched windows with spandrels and a rosette frieze above. The second-floor windows have lugged architraves and are set on a cill band, while the third-floor windows are lugged and shoulder architraved. A deep bracketed cornice runs along the top, and there is a panelled die parapet with raised dies at the ends and flanking the corner. The roof is slate-covered.
The south return bay at Gordon Street mirrors the main detailing, including a corniced attic window and a raised parapet.
