Description

71, 73, and 75 Robertson Street in Glasgow is a tall five-storey office building with an attic, designed in the Glasgow style by J A Campbell in 1901. It is constructed from red sandstone ashlar.

The main block facing Robertson Street features five bays with channelled piers at the ground level. The central entrance has a Doric columned doorpiece with an open pediment, adorned with lion heads and fruit. The first-floor windows are keystoned, and there is a galleried fourth floor supported by corbelled balconies and squat Doric columns. A deep bracketed cornice runs along the top of the building. To the south, there is a single bay flanked by pilaster strips, with corbelled details at the first floor and three-light windows, the fourth-floor window featuring a decorative head beneath a gable. The north angle is corbelled to a rounded shape for two storeys above the ground, with a ship's prow design under the central aedicule on the first floor. Swags connect cherubic head corbels that transition into a semi-octagonal shape from the third to the fifth floors, with angle strips and a Jacobean frieze above the fourth floor. The building has very deep eaves that encircle a stack at the south, topped with an ogee roof and an apex finial.

On Robertson Lane, there is one gabled ashlar bay, while the rest of the elevation is brick with simplified details, including segmental-headed, keyblocked windows arranged in pairs at the northwest angle. The rear (west) elevation consists of six unequal bays.

At the back, there is a semi-enclosed courtyard with glazed brick elevations and shallow canted bays featuring metal-framed casement windows.
