Daily Record Office, 55 Hope Street, Glasgow

The Daily Record Office, located at 55 Hope Street in Glasgow, is a former newspaper office designed by Robert Thomson, completed in 1907. This seven-storey building showcases a free classical style and is constructed of polished red ashlar.

The ground floor features a double-height central entrance with three bays, which has been altered, and is flanked by smaller niches that contain figure sculptures in the northern bay. The first floor has an altered parapet supported by sculpted mask corbels. From the first to the third floor, there are two recessed canted bays with pilaster mullioned sash and case windows. The fourth floor is adorned with arched windows that have mask heads and a solid balcony, with crouching sculpted figures on corbels at the extreme outer bays supporting facetted piers that break through the roof line.

A shallow bowed balustraded balcony is present on the fifth floor, with central and side arches framing the fifth and sixth floor casement windows that feature glazing bars. At the top, there is a central scrolled, crow-stepped gable with a round-arched window flanked by simple piers. The building also has a corniced end stack and a set-back bell-shaped tiled roof in the northern bay.
