Description

This building, a warehouse located at 60, 62, and 64 Robertson Street in Glasgow, was constructed between 1902 and 1905 by Steel and Balfour and features two additional storeys added later. It retains the facades of a tall six-storey, five-bay commercial structure. The exterior is made of brick with a red sandstone ashlar frontage that has been painted at the ground floor. Channelled pilasters or piers separate each bay.

The central entrance is prominent, extending up to the first floor, where Doric columns support an entablature that is recessed over the lintel. A wrought and cast-iron gate and screen are present, along with a large semi-circular arched window above, which features a keystone supporting a two-storey oriel. The inner shop windows have been removed, but the outer ground floor bays contain wide entrances with canted shop windows. The first-floor windows have shallow segmental heads, while the second and third floors feature bipartite windows adorned with fruit swags in between.

The building is topped with a main modillion cornice and an open segmental pediment. The two later storeys are marked by banded pilasters in the central bay, with the outer fourth-floor windows having shallow segmental heads and key-blocks. The fifth-floor windows are recessed behind a Doric columned screen. A block cornice finishes the structure, and the panelled parapet at the centre was removed when the building was incorporated into a hotel development.
