Description
The Glass Houses in Queen's Park, Glasgow, were built in 1905 by the Office of Public Works as part of a municipal park. The structure features a central dome at the south entrance, with a gabled center and symmetrical flanking ranges. The layout consists of a series of parallel east-west oriented ranges that extend at right angles from a full-length central linking range. The glass houses are fully glazed above red brick dwarf walls, with ironwork by Simpson and Farmer, horticultural builders from Glasgow, which is inscribed. It is likely that more ranges were originally iron-crested than are present today. To the east, there is a red-brick boiler house and associated ranges at a lower level, along with a square-plan chimney stack that has an integral rainwater tank attached. The roofs are slated, and the windows are sash.
