Description

The Outer Stable Block, Barn, and Attached Buildings in Calke Park are early 19th-century structures, with one range dated 1804. They are built from red brick and topped with plain tile roofs. The buildings feature brick coped gables with plain kneelers and two ridge stacks on the smithy. The complex consists of two L-shaped ranges arranged in sequence, with one and two storey sections. The southern range creates a courtyard alongside the separately listed stable block and riding school.

The south elevation of the smithy showcases two broad basket arches; the left arch contains a door and window, while the right arch has just a window. There are no openings above these arches. To the left, there are three repeated window and door pairs, all with segmental arches. To the right, there is a doorway with a flat arch, a window, and a door featuring segment heads. A two-storey return range extends to the southeast.

On the west elevation, there are four bays alternating between doors and windows, all with segment heads. The rightmost bay projects and is gabled, featuring a blind segment-headed doorway and a circular pitching eye above. The east elevation presents an irregular arrangement of six bays with segment-headed windows, interspersed with four round-arched doorways and four segment-headed shuttered openings above. A datestone inscribed "Novr llth 1804" is also present.

The northern L-range includes a barn on the north side and a single-storey range to the southeast. The east elevation has an irregular arrangement of three windows and doors, all with segment heads. The west elevation, facing the crew yard, features a five-bay colonnade with walls rising to two-thirds height, along with various lean-tos behind the smithy. The barn has tall double doors on the south side and three additional doorways with segmental arches, as well as three tiers of cross breathers. To the north, a full-height cart entrance has been widened in the 20th century, and there are three square pitching openings and three tiers of cross breathers. A stone coped wall encloses the west side of the crew yard.
