Description

The Administration Block of the Victoria Infirmary, located at 517 Langside Road in Glasgow, was designed by Campbell Douglas and Sellars and built between 1889 and 1890. This two-storey, five-bay building is in the Renaissance style and features a symmetrical front with advanced block elements and square-plan towers at each end, topped with open, ogee-domed cupolas. The rear of the building has a three-storey gabled range. The front is constructed of sandstone ashlar, while the rear is made of squared rubble.

Architectural details include band courses and corniced eaves. The central three bays have moulded, deep-set round-arched openings at the ground level, with an entrance door in the centre flanked by bi-partite windows that have mullioned central columns. A paired Ionic columned colonnade is located on the first floor, behind which are three cross window openings. The royal crest of the Victoria Infirmary is prominently displayed above the entrance, flanked by pilasters and topped with a segmental-arched pediment that features a carved puma in the tympanum. The building is linked to the main Victoria Infirmary structure at the south corner.

The windows exhibit a variety of glazing patterns, including some three-over-two pane timber sash and case windows at the rear, along with some fixed timber windows and non-traditional replacement windows. The roof is covered with grey slates and features gable stacks.

The interior, partially seen in 2013, includes an open well stair with timber balusters and railings, along with some decorative cornicing.
