Description
The Battlefield Monument, located at Battle Place in Glasgow, was designed by architect Alexander Skirving and erected in 1887. This monument commemorates the battle of Langside, which took place on May 13, 1568, where a force led by the Regent Moray defeated the troops of Mary Queen of Scots. The monument features an elaborately spiraled shaft that stands on a stepped and rusticated square plinth, topped with a lion. The stone was cleaned and restored in March 1987, as noted on a plaque.
