Gate Piers, Langside College, 124 Prospecthill Road, Glasgow

Langside College, located at 124 Prospecthill Road in Glasgow, was designed by Salmon, Son and Ritchie in 1867 as a lodge for the Deaf and Dumb Institution, which is now a college. The building is a large, symmetrical block featuring French Gothic detailing. The façade has a variety of wall planes that step forward and rise towards the center, creating complex roof forms. The two-storey wings have shallow advanced pavilions, each with a first-floor oriel window and iron-crested French roofs.

The three-storey central block primarily features two-light windows and includes a central entrance bay with a columned doorpiece. Above this entrance are tripartite windows, and the steep iron-crested French roof has an inset dormer. The design includes shafted mullions and arched ground floor windows with stilted heads above the mullioned sections. The exterior is made of polychrome yellow ashlar with red bands and details, and it features horizontal bands and original glazing, all topped with slate roofs.

The detailing continues along the flanks and smaller rear wings of the building.
