Description
The East Gateway in Pittencrieff Park, Dunfermline, dates from the earlier to mid-19th century. It features double cast-iron gates flanked by pedestrian gates, set between lightly droved octagonal sandstone ashlar gatepiers. The gatepiers have a base and band course, recessed panels on each side, and rounded caps raised at the apex. The gates are designed with a lattice pattern and have spiked finials both on the gates and at the apex. There are remains of an earlier 18th-century gatepost at the end of the railed wall to the north, along with a small sandstone obelisk topped with a ball finial.
