228-232 High Street, Kirkcaldy

228-232 High Street in Kirkcaldy is an early 19th-century, three-storey tenement building with an attic and five bays, featuring a shop on the ground floor. The structure is made of sandstone and granite, with stone cills and harled walls that have painted margins at the rear. It has a cornice on the first floor and an eaves course.

The northern elevation facing High Street has a granite shop front on the ground floor, which includes a small display window in the center and large display windows flanking it, with the right side featuring an in-canted center door. There are five windows on both the first and second floors, and slate-hung dormer windows on the outer right and left sides above.

The southern elevation has its ground and first floors largely hidden by later extensions. There are windows in the bays to the right and left on the first floor, piended dormer windows above, and an off-center right piended stair tower with windows on the first and second floors, plus another window breaking the eaves above.

The building features a 12- and 16-pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case windows, with grey slates on the roof. It has ashlar coped skews and coped ashlar stacks with cans, as well as cast-iron downpipes and a decorative rainwater hopper.
