Description

5 and 7 East Leven Street in Burntisland is a cottage villa dated 1898, which was converted into two dwellings in 1950. It is a single-storey and attic structure with three bays, situated on a slope that falls to the north and forms part of an irregular terrace to the east. The building is constructed of droved ashlar with rusticated quoins, stop-chamfered arrises, stone mullions, and features shouldered and round-headed openings.

The south elevation, which serves as the entrance, is symmetrical. It has a round-headed moulded doorcase with a monogrammed keystone, flanked by foliate corbels and fluted pilasters that support a pediment adorned with foliate carving and a shield in the tympanum, topped with an anthemion finial. At the wallhead, there is a round-headed ashlar dormer window that breaks the eaves, featuring fluted pilasters, dentils, and a mask keystone. The prominent timber canted dormers have round-headed centre lights and boarded gableheads, finished with leaf, ball, and spike finials. The central entrance has a panelled two-leaf door with a rounded plate glass fanlight, while the flanking bays contain canted windows. There is also a timber door to the outer left beneath a flat roof, with dormer windows in the flanking bays.

The windows are fitted with plate glass glazing in timber sash and case frames. The roof is covered with grey slates, and it has coped ashlar stacks with polygonal cans, overhanging eaves, plain bargeboarding, and cast-iron finials.

The boundary walls consist of a low saddleback coped ashlar wall, with a random rubble wall to the west.
