Free Church, East Leven Street, Burntisland

The Free Church on East Leven Street in Burntisland was built in 1843 and the site was redeveloped in 1988 after the original church was destroyed by fire in 1986. The entrance and belfry are designed in an Italianate style, while the remaining walls have been adapted for a public sitting area. The structure features ashlar stone with quoin strips, band courses, and stone mullions.

The belfry is a three-stage tower, which includes a blind Venetian window at the ground level beneath a bracketed coping. The second stage has a blind oculus on each face, and the third stage features a round-headed opening for the bellcote, with cast-iron grilles on each side and a corniced pyramidal cap topped with a spike finial.

The former entrance has been converted into a pedestrian gateway, characterized by a blockish, square-headed, deeply chamfered opening, with a cast-iron lamp bracket facing the street.

The boundary walls are low and made of coped ashlar stone along the street, with coped random rubble walls that include steps leading down to the site.
