Description
The Auld Hoose is an earlier 20th-century public house that incorporates earlier fabric and is situated on Milton Road in Windygates. It is a single-storey building with an attic, featuring four bays and a design that may be described as Tudoresque. The structure is constructed of brick and harl, with a cill course and corniced window heads, along with timber transoms and mullions.
The northern elevation, which serves as the entrance, has three principal bays on the right that are symmetrical. The taller central bay includes timber doors with small pane fanlights, flanked by a tall, three-part oriel window beneath a gable head that features mock timber framing. The elevation is adorned with a decorative wrought iron sign and has a finialled gambrel roof. The lower bays to the right and left of the center have a four-part window beneath a slightly swept, piended, and stepped roof with decorative raised outer wallheads. The fourth bay on the outer left has a two-leaf boarded timber door below a small pane fanlight, flanked by narrow windows.
The windows have a small pane glazing pattern, although the top right of the oriel window has been replaced by a modern extractor. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks with cans and ashlar coped skews. The building features overhanging eaves, decorative bargeboarding, and cast iron downpipes with decorative rainwater hoppers.
The property is also defined by its boundary walls, which are semicircular and saddleback coped, along with harled gatepiers and decorative cast iron gates.
