Description

Monrepos is a pair of semi-detached cottages located at 8 Station Road in Windygates, built in the earlier 20th century. These single-storey cottages, each with an attic, feature two bays and dormer windows. They are constructed of red brick, accented by contrasting rusticated ashlar quoins and a chamfered base course. The buildings have stop-chamfered arrises, stone and timber mullions.

The entrance elevation is symmetrical, featuring a modern door with a plate glass fanlight positioned off-centre to the right. To the outer right, there is a bipartite window, and the name "MARIPOSA" is carved into the top long quoin. Above this, there is a dormer window off-centre to the right and a bipartite dormer window to the outer right. All dormers are adorned with scalloped lead flashing, decorative timber dormerheads, pierced bargeboarding, and decorative cast iron finials. The cottage to the left mirrors this design, except for the carved name, which reads "MONREPOS."

The north elevation presents a blank face with a gambrel jerkinhead roof and a shouldered stack, while the south elevation is identical to the north. The west elevation features a lower piended projection at the centre, which includes a window and door on the returns, along with a modern flat-roofed extension. There are windows to the outer right and left in a recessed face.

The cottages have modern glazing throughout and are topped with decorative grey slates. The chimneys are made of coped, polychrome brick with polygonal cans. Additional decorative elements include carved bargeboarding, overhanging eaves, decorative cast iron finials, and cast iron downpipes with decorative fixings.

Surrounding the property are semicircular coped brick boundary walls, square ashlar piers, and low saddleback coped boundary walls, all complemented by decorative cast iron railings and gates.
