Description
The Swettenham Arms is a public house that dates back to the late 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It features whitened brickwork and a combination of stone slate and tile roof coverings. The building is arranged over three levels, consisting of a one-bay, two-storey section with an attic, and a two-bay, two-storey section, along with a single-storey addition from the 20th century on the north side.
The higher one-bay section has a prominent five-course-deep first-floor band and a blocked first-floor window. The entrance is marked by a fully glazed door with glazing bars and wing lights, which is sheltered by a single-storey brick gabled porch that has a pair of boarded and studded doors with false strap hinges. The windows have been altered to five-light flush casements, with some featuring top-hung vents. The two-storey section displays a saw-tooth eaves band and has a gable-end stack, while the higher section includes a mid-ridge stack. The single-storey wing on the north side is noted as having no special interest.
Inside, the higher single-bay section showcases bevelled beams and exposed ceiling joists. The building is included for its group value.
