Description

Swettenham Hall is a mansion dating to the late 18th century. It is constructed of whitened pebble-dashed brickwork with a slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has a symmetrical facade of seven bays. A stone plinth runs along the base. The second and sixth bays feature two-storey canted bay windows, while the fourth bay has a single-storey canted bay window with a lead flat roof. All windows are sash windows with stone sills and glazing bars; those within the bay windows are recessed. The ground floor has six-panel doors, each with a plain pilaster door case, archivolt, and radial bar fanlight, in the third and fifth bays. A projecting eaves string course is topped by a crenellated parapet with stone coping, which rises one metre above its normal height over the three central bays, following the projections of the bay windows. Symmetrically placed intermediate and gable-end stacks are present. At the rear (southwest), a large three-bay wide canted bay window with three pairs of French windows is flanked by two gables; the garden front has eleven windows. The interior contains six-panel doors and a staircase with a cut and bracketed string.
