Description
The Picture Gallery, located northwest of Clonterbrook House, is a former barn dating from the early 18th century that has been converted into a gallery. It is constructed of red brick in English garden wall bond and features a stone slab roof. The building is two storeys high with three truss bays. The main entrance consists of an oak double door, divided into two sections in height, which is hung on large strap hinges and set under a segmental arch positioned nearly at the eaves level. This door is flanked by square brick piers that reach the eaves, and there are breather holes arranged in a diamond pattern beside the piers. At the first floor level, there are two-light flush casements with glazing in the original pitch hole frames. The south gable features two six-panel doors, one of which provides access to the gallery on the first floor.
Inside, a gable door opens into a small hall that contains a wall staircase. Two walls are adorned with oak dado panelling, while one wall features full-height panelling. The straight flight of stairs, believed to have originated from Shavington Park in Shropshire, is supported by turned balusters and large square newels topped with moulded caps. On the first floor, there is two-panel-high oak dado panelling with reeded muntins that were sourced from Eaton Hall near Chester. The roof retains two original oak king post trusses, along with oak purlins and a ridgetree.
