Description

This is a mid-16th century barn or granary, which has been partly converted into a gallery. The building is constructed of brick, with a roof covered in black glazed pantiles. The north-facing facade features a 20th-century door slightly left of centre, flanked by grill windows. Above the door, to the left, is a blocked loading door. A shuttered two-light mullioned window is centrally placed on the first floor, and another loading door is located to the right, next to an 18th-century sloping brick buttress with tumbled brickwork. The roof is gabled, and the east gable has a timber wall plate. Inside, a floor has been excavated, and a 20th-century brick partition wall divides the west end. The roof structure consists of tie beams, two tiers of purlins; the lower tier is nailed, while the upper tier is clasped between principals and collars. Many of the roof timbers have been replaced.
