Description
The King's Lynn Centre for the Arts and King's Lynn Players Rehearsal Rooms, formerly known as the Fermoy Centre, is a range of warehouses located on King Street, extending from the rear of St George's Guildhall towards the river. The eastern end dates back to around 1420, coinciding with the completion of the Guildhall, while the western end is likely from the late 15th century. However, much rebuilding has occurred, which obscures the age of the western parts. The building is primarily constructed of brick with pantiled roofs and consists of two storeys.
The eastern section features coursed ashlar on the ground floor from the early 15th century, which is pierced by three large doorways. Above this, 16th-century brick gives way to 18th-century and 20th-century brick on the first floor, which has five metal 20th-century leaded casements. The roof is gabled. To the west, there is a later range that was almost entirely rebuilt in the early 18th century using English bond brickwork. A 20th-century door is located to the right under a canvas awning. This section also has two storeys, with fenestration consisting of 20th-century bottom-hung casements, and the gabled roof continues.
The rehearsal rooms maintain the same architectural theme, featuring a three-light lap-glazed window on the ground floor and a five-light window above, with the gabled roof continuing.
