Description

Cemetery Lodge, located at 119 Loughborough Road in Kirkcaldy, was built in 1881. This single-storey lodge house features a crowstepped design with a conical roofed turret. It is constructed from bull-faced, squared, and snecked rubble, accented with ashlar dressings. The building has a base course and an eaves cornice, along with stone mullions and chamfered arrises.

On the west elevation, there is a bay to the left of center, which has an advanced, ball-finialled, crowstepped gable. This gable contains a bipartite window and a rectangular panel with a blind oculus at the top. To the right, there is a finialled circular entrance turret with a boarded timber door and a 2-pane fanlight in the re-entrant angle, followed by a blank bay.

The south elevation, facing Loughborough Road, mirrors the advanced gable design but includes a moulded datestone. There is also a stepped screen wall with a gunloop to the right.

The east elevation features an advanced gable similar to the others on the right, while the re-entrant angle to the left has lean-to offices with a shouldered wallhead stack above.

The north elevation has a window to the right. The windows are fitted with plate glass glazing in timber sash and case frames. The building includes a coped ashlar stack with cans, ashlar crowsteps, and moulded skewputts. The turret is covered with grey slates arranged in a fishscale pattern, and there is a cast-iron downpipe with a decorative rainwater hopper and fixings on the west side.

The property is enclosed by semicircular-coped rubble boundary walls.
