Description

D Forbes Smith ARIBA, 1898. Pair of single storey and attic, 2-bay semi-detached cottages in Edwardian Tudor style with stocky Ionic-columned porches. Ashlar with rubble to sides and rear. Base and eaves courses. Corbelled chimney breasts; chamfered arrises, stone transoms and mullions.

E (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: symmetrical. Advanced M-gable to centre with 12-light canted transomed windows to with cornice and blocking course; flanking stone porches with dwarf walls and cavetto cornices; 6-light transomed window below gunloop in gableheads. Recessed outer bays with canted 6-light transomed windows wrapped around outer angles, moulded to corbelled skewputt over centre light.

S ELEVATION: dominant chimney breast piercing right pitch of gable to grouped stack. Window to left and 2 further windows in gablehead.

N ELEVATION: mirror of S elevation.

Modern glazing. Red tiles and decorative terracotta ridge tiles. Moulded, coped ashlar stacks with full complement of decorative cans; ashlar-coped skews with moulded skewputts and cast-iron downpipes with decorative rainwater hopper,

BOUNDARY WALLS: saddleback-coped rubble retaining walls to E, and semicircular coped rubble boundary walls.
