3-4 Ivy Cottage, Easter Pencaitland

3-4 Ivy Cottage in Easter Pencaitland is a row of cottages built in the later 19th century, originally consisting of three cottages but currently comprising four. The building features squared and snecked, tooled rubble with droved ashlar dressings, including a base course and chamfered reveals.

The north elevation, facing the road, has six irregular bays. To the left of the center, there are paired gabled porches with decorative timber columns, brackets, barge boarding, and a balustrade. Between the doorways, there is a narrow window, and the porches have boarded doors with strip fanlights. There is an additional porch and doorway in the penultimate bay to the right. The remaining ground floor bays contain timber mullioned bipartite windows.

On the first floor, there is a narrow window off-centre to the left, and four bipartites in the flanking bays, with two arranged under gabled bays to the left and two to the right, each breaking the eaves in gabled dormerheads. The west elevation is blank with a blocked first-floor window, and there is a later single-storey addition to the east elevation.

At the rear, there are further additions. The windows are a mix of small-pane casements and plate glass sash and case. The north gables feature timber eaves brackets and kingposts. The roofs are pantiled, with Velux windows added to the rear in 1990. There are stone stacks with original cans retained, and low timber railings in front of the bays to the right.
