Description
School Lodge, located at 21 Glebe Park in Kirkcaldy, was likely designed by John Milne around 1880. This single-storey lodge has a cruciform plan and features gabled roofs, including a turret-roofed porch. The structure is built from squared and snecked dressed rubble, accented with polished ashlar dressings. The porch has an eaves cornice and a pointed-arch doorway with voussoirs, stop-chamfered arrises, and stone mullions.
On the east elevation, there is an advanced gable with a window in the bay to the right and a round turret-roofed porch to the left, which includes a panelled timber door and a ball and spike finial in the re-entrant angle. The south elevation features a projecting gable at the center with a slightly advanced bipartite window below battered coping, alongside the round porch with a narrow light in the re-entrant angle to the right and a flat-roofed extension to the left. The west elevation has an advanced gable at the center with a door to the right and a bipartite window to the left, as well as flat-roofed extensions in the flanking re-entrant angles. The north elevation shows a slightly advanced center gable with a window to the right.
The porch has plate glass glazing in timber sash and case windows, while the other windows are top-opening timber. The roof is covered with graded grey slates featuring a fish-scale band on the turret. The building includes a coped ashlar stack with cans at the crossing, along with ashlar-coped skews and moulded skewputts.
The boundary walls are made of ashlar-coped squared-rubble and feature broad stepped gatepiers.
