Description
South Lodge in Olrig is a Baronial-style lodge built in the later to late 19th century. It is asymmetrical, single storey, and has two bays. The exterior is harled with sandstone ashlar dressings. A crenellated string course separates the ground floor from the attic on the northeast side, featuring sandstone hoodmoulds and projecting cills.
The southeast elevation has a gabled porch that projects to the left, with an arched opening at the centre of the ground floor. The gablehead is corbelled and crowstepped, with a square panel in the middle, flanked by square-plan angle turrets. To the right, there is a single recessed window in the bay. The outer left features a squat, corbelled, circular-plan angle turret, while the outer right has a corbelled, circular-plan angle turret topped with a graded conical cap.
On the southwest side, the crowstepped gable end has single windows on either side of the centre, with a square-plan panel in the gablehead. There is a squat, corbelled, circular-plan angle turret to the outer right, and a taller circular-plan angle turret to the left, which has a surmounting can. An addition is present to the outer left.
The northeast elevation also has a crowstepped gable end, with a large opening at the centre of the ground floor and a single window in the gablehead, above which is a small square panel. There are corbelled, circular-plan turrets on both sides, with the left turret featuring a graded conical cap. A projecting porch is recessed to the outer left, and a rear projection is recessed to the outer right.
Many of the windows are boarded up or missing. The roof is covered with grey slate and features crowstepped skews. There are tall, square-plan apex stacks on the southwest and northeast sides, both with crenellated caps. A ridge stack or finial is offset to the left of centre.
The boundary wall is made of rubble and partially encloses the site.
