Description
This building, located at 2 Preston Road in East Linton, dates from around 1910 and is a single-storey, L-plan Arts and Crafts studio-villa with an attic and a porch addition at the rear. The exterior features white painted harl and red ashlar cills.
On the east elevation, there is a central door with a recessed lugged surround and a cantilevered canopy, flanked by small windows. Above the entrance bay, a gabled balcony recess with a semicircular opening breaks the eaves, supported by decorative timber brackets and a simple balustrade, with mock timber framing at the apex. There is also a door to the attic balcony and windows in the outer bays.
The south elevation includes a six-light window on the ground floor, with four lights in the center forming a canted bay, mirrored by a window in the attic above with a cornice.
On the west elevation, there is one window in the main block and two windows in the wing at ground level, along with a modern window in a piend-roofed dormer to the attic in the re-entrant angle.
The north elevation features a single-storey porch projection with a window, adjacent to a gable end with a stair window, and two windows in the wing. Multi-pane casement windows flank the entrance on the east and are also present on the south elevation, while the rest of the building predominantly has sash and case windows with various glazing, some of which are modern.
The roof is covered with red tiles that overhang the eaves. The building has ashlar coped harled wallhead stacks; the northern stack intercepts the skew to the right of the gablehead, while the western side features paired diamond stacks with decorative cornices and ashlar shoulders.
