Trafalgar House, Loretto School, 33-39 Millhill, Musselburgh

Trafalgar House is a villa built around 1830, located behind a high garden wall featuring a corniced doorway. The building has an unusual asymmetrical design and an L-plan front made of droved ashlar. The left side has a pedimented window gable that projects, with a margined and aproned ground floor window and a segment-headed first floor window set in a segmentally arched recess, along with an arched attic light cutting into the base of the pediment above. The remainder of the villa is two stories high with a two-window layout, cornice, and blocking course, featuring simple square-headed windows. An open porch with a Greek Doric column, which is unfluted but has a concave base, is located in the re-entrant angle. The rectilinear fanlight is largely reglazed, although two windows still retain their lying panes. The roofs are slated, and there is a modern single-storey extension with a frontal timber pergola to the southwest.
