Musselburgh Building Society, 8 Bridge Street, Musselburgh

The Musselburgh Building Society, located at 8 Bridge Street in Musselburgh, is a two-storey symmetrical villa built around 1830. It features three windows with architraves and cornices. To the right, there is a mid-19th century extension that includes tripartite windows on both the ground and first floors. A circa 1930 alteration advanced the ground floor over the forecourt of the original villa to create an office space, which has three windows flanked by doorways. The left doorway features a recessed Roman Doric doorpiece beneath a semi-circular fanlight that has been reset from the original frontage, while the right doorway is square-headed. The building has piended slate roofs covering both the villa and the extension. The ground floor is constructed from channelled sandstone, while the first floor is made of ashlar. There are decorative elements including a first-floor band course, a cill string course, a cornice, and a blocking course. The original villa has six-pane sash windows, whereas the other windows are single-pane.
