Description

The Royal Bank of Scotland, located at 12 Bridge Street in Musselburgh, is a detached bank building constructed in 1934 by architects Dick Peddie & Walker Todd. This single-storey structure is faced with ashlar stone and features a symmetrical design that is five bays wide. The central three bays are higher and set forward, while the side bays each contain one window. There is a heavy band course beneath a deep blocking course located just below the entablature of the central bays. The central bays also have a deep blocking course and a parapet that is interrupted in the middle by a large sculpted coat of arms. The building has flat roofs within the parapets. The main entrance features a triple key-blocked doorway with a recessed, corniced doorpiece, flanked by one plain architraved window on each side, with margin paned glazing. Inside, there is a well-designed banking hall with Roman Doric columns, which is partially receiled.
