Description
Fairman's Land, located at 1-3 High Street in Musselburgh, dates from around 1760 and is a three-storey building with an attic. It features a symmetrical facade that is six windows wide, highlighted by a central porch in the Tuscan distyle, which shelters an architraved doorpiece topped with a five-arched-pane fanlight. There are segmental arched pends at each end, although the left one is blocked and contains a window. The building has massive end and central chimney stacks that enclose a slate roof. The exterior is constructed of coursed rubble with raised margins around the windows and corniced eaves.
The roof includes four small piended square dormers and six-pane sash windows. At the rear, there is a later wing that has gablets above the dormer-headed first-floor windows and a crowstep gable end, with a piended slate roof adjacent to the main rear wall. Additionally, there is a much-altered lectern doocot on the property.
