Description
Clare Park is a building dating from 1725, though it has a later 18th century appearance. It stands three storeys tall and features a symmetrical south front with four windows. The hipped slate roof has wide eaves supported by coupled curved brackets. The walls are finished in stucco, with projecting bands at the first and second floors and a plinth. The windows are sashes set in reveals. On the west side, there is an early 19th century angled bay at ground level. The west entrance front has a 2:1:2 window arrangement, with an early 19th century two-storey, three-window wing to the north, which has similar features but includes a parapet.
The central porch is elegantly bow-shaped, with a lightly-moulded cornice and frieze, the underside of which is reeded. It is supported by two slender Tuscan columns, with half-columns against the walls, all set on stone steps. The porch has thin curved walls between the columns and half-columns. Inside, there is an arched doorway with an architrave surround leading to a delicate fanlight and sliding panelled shutters. A plain reveal leads to a glazed inner door, which also features a fanlight. There are extensive modern buildings attached and detached from the main structure, built in red brickwork.
