Description
Red House, located at 95 Millhill in Musselburgh, is a late 18th century villa that was altered and extended in 1895 to serve as an Industrial School. The building is tall and three storeys high, featuring mansard attics added in 1895. It has a symmetrical facade that is three windows wide, constructed from coursed red rubble with raised quoins, window margins, and a band course beneath the corniced eaves.
The centre bay is raised above the eaves and includes a pediment that features a Roman Doric pilastered Venetian window, which has a blind centre light and is topped by a chimney stack. The entrance is highlighted by a pedimented and consoled doorpiece. The windows consist of six-pane upper sashes, while the lower sashes have been reglazed with double panes. There are four square, segmental-headed dormers that also have double-pane sashes. The roof is covered with slate and includes a central lead platform flat.
