Description
East Mains is a farmhouse dating from around 1800, with later additions from the early 19th century. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure that is integrated into a substantial later two-storey wing and a four-bay block, creating a T-shaped plan. The exterior features squared and coursed yellow ashlar with raised margins and hoodmoulds. The original house and the rear of the later addition are harled.
The block from around 1835 has a door to the right of the centre with a strip fanlight, and a piend roofed canted bay to the outer right at ground level. There are two windows to the left and four windows on the first floor.
The farmhouse from circa 1800, which is attached at the rear, has three windows on both the ground and first floors, positioned close under the eaves. It features sash and case windows with a 12-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with grey slates and has ashlar coped skews and coped stacks, some of which are rendered and feature decorative cans.
