Trevelyan Cottage, Wester Pencaitland

Trevelyan Cottage in Wester Pencaitland dates from around 1881 and consists of a pair of two-storey cottages, with the second storey extending above the eaves as an attic. The building is constructed from stugged, squared, and snecked sandstone rubble, featuring ashlar dressings and chamfered arrises at the doorways. It has a symmetrical design in both plan and elevation, situated at a crossroads. The doorways are paired at the center, each adorned with a strip fanlight and a square panel displaying the monogram "AT". The ground floor has windows in the outer bays, while the first floor features a window that breaks the eaves in a gabled dormer head. At the rear, there is a gabled jamb projecting from the center bays, which includes two ground floor windows and two first floor windows paired at the center. Lean-to porches are located in the re-entrant angles of the outer bays. The north gable is blank, while the south gable has a small later window at ground level. The windows are sash and case style, with 4-pane and 6-pane glazing patterns. The roof is covered with grey-green slates, and the dormer heads are slate hung. Coped end stacks complete the structure.
