Description
Tranent Mains is a villa-like farmhouse built in the earlier to mid 19th century. It is a two-storey structure with three bays and features a single-storey porch addition. The front is made of stugged grey sandstone that is squared and coursed, while the sides and rear are constructed from pink rubble with stugged grey ashlar dressings. There are base and cill courses on the front.
On the north elevation, there is a consoled canopy over the central door, which has a plate glass fanlight above it. Flanking windows are present at the ground level and in each bay on the first floor.
The south elevation has a single-storey porch that projects at the centre. There is a window in each floor of the outer bays, with the outer right bay being recessed.
The west elevation shows evidence of a former addition at the ground level, with a window in each floor of the outer bays.
The east elevation is largely blank, but it has a window in each floor at the outer right. The sash and case windows feature a lying-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with grey slate and has piend roofs, with grouped polygonal end stacks that retain their cans.
