Description
Baltersan is a farmhouse built between the early to mid-19th century. It has two storeys and a basement, featuring three bays, with later additions including a porch, an attic, and a single-storey and attic wing. The building is constructed of rubble with squared dressings and contrasting red sandstone ashlar margins, while the west elevation is harled.
On the east elevation, there is a substantial gabled stone porch at the centre, which includes a window and door on the south return, along with a strip fanlight. Windows are present in the flanking bays at ground level and in each bay on the first floor. There are two gabled dormers with side lights in the outer bays.
The west elevation faces the steading and features a stair window at the centre, flanked to the left by a lean-to addition at ground level and a window at the far outer left. There is a window on each floor of the outer right bay and a first-floor window in the outer left bay.
The south elevation has two basement lights breaking the ground towards the centre, a ground floor window to the outer left, and a first-floor window at the centre.
The north elevation has an adjoining north gable with a door to the west elevation and windows to the east. There is a later piend-roofed bipartite dormer on the east side.
The windows are 12-pane sash and case style. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are end stacks with sandstone ashlar dressings and polygonal cans. The ashlar coped skews, ashlar ridge, and ball finial are features of the porch. There are also octagonal cans and a rubble retaining wall to the south and west.
