Description

This building, located at 246 Church Street in Tranent, dates back to 1807 and is a single-storey lodge with an attic, featuring classical architectural details. The south elevation is made of sandstone that is droved, squared, and coursed, while the sides and rear are constructed from rubble.

The south elevation has an entrance in the slightly advanced central bay, which features a pediment that breaks the eaves. The deep-set door includes a sunray fanlight and a flushed-panelled door. Above, there is an oculus in the pediment and simple polygonal stone finials. The flanking bays contain modern, shallow canted windows.

The side elevations have attic windows, and the rear has a modern porch along with two box dormer additions. The building has modern glazing, with ashlar coped skews and coped end stacks, while the original chimney cans have been retained. The roof is covered with purple slates.

Inside, the vestibule features geometric tiling, and there is a tripartite inner vestibule door with etched glass.

Additionally, there are two sections of stone balustrade located close to the south elevation, each topped with gadrooned urn finials. The property also includes a sandstone rubble retaining wall to the south, which is ashlar coped and taller on the sides, continuing with the retaining wall of 252 Church Street.
