Description
The Harvesters Hotel in East Linton is a symmetrical, two-storey, three-bay house built in a classical style, featuring a basement. The exterior is constructed from squared and snecked whinstone rubble with sandstone dressings and raised margins.
On the west elevation, the bays are grouped towards the center, where there is a doorway set in a slightly advanced pedimented bay. This doorway is framed by an attached Doric columned corniced doorpiece, which includes a delicate radial fanlight. A short flight of steps leads down to the basement, which is oversailed and features cast-iron railings. Each bay has windows at the basement level, with taller windows in the flanking bays on the ground floor. The first floor has a window in each bay, and the elevation is finished with a moulded cornice and a blocking course, topped by an apex die to the pediment.
The east (rear) elevation has later additions. It features a piend roofed stair projection at the center, with a recess on the south return that reveals a former stair window, showcasing regular fenestration. There is a projection to the southeast that includes a French window and a flanking window to the right on the ground floor, with a bipartite window above in the center. The windows are sash and case style with a 12-pane glazing pattern. The piend roof is covered with grey slates, and there are ashlar end stacks with a cornice. Decorative railings made of wrought and cast iron enhance the property.
